Personal Statement
My name is Brooke Young. I attend Monta Vista High school in Cupertino, California. I play two sports, tennis and track and field. Three years ago was when I discovered something that changed my life completely, which was running. Since I was three years old up all the way up until ninth grade I played tennis. I started playing competitive at the age of seven and went on from there. I had a true passion for tennis but one day my friend wanted me and my twin sister to join track and so we did. I've always been told by my PE teachers ever since elementary school that I was pretty quick and I guess I found out pretty late in my life. Joining track was merely an accident but became one of the best decisions in my life so far. I have met some of most incredible people i've ever met. I've never enjoyed being anywhere else. Since it was my first time running track, I had no expectations so everything I experienced, endured was without warning. Training to run faster is like no other sport. You are pushing your body to the limit with the aspect of your mentality which yes, this is in all sports but running a race is a whole other experience you cannot go through unless you've actually ran in a race with the gun and all that. Before I started running, I thought my training in tennis was a pain but after joining track, looking back tennis seemed like a dream but that's what was so great about track. Everyone was in it together running side my side and everyday the team is able to support and push each other endlessly making us do the best we can, and there's nothing that can beat that feeling of support my team gave each other. Track isn't like any other sport and here is why. There is a physical record of improvement and an end result of all your hard work and dedication which I feel no other sport can compare. I hope I can continue my journey at the collegiate level and doing what I enjoy most.
