Personal Statement
I have competed on Chaminade University of Honolulu’s Division II cross country team for the past two years. Although cross country was never my passion in high school, I have found a love for distance running and beautiful comradery among my teammates. Last year, I was named PacWest Runner of the Week for being the first silversword to win a race in 31 years. This year, I was honored to serve as team captain where I learned to expand my leadership skills that will last me a lifetime. We were able to beat both DII Hawaii teams in every meet of the season. I have treasured my time competing on a team that truly exemplifies the spirit of Aloha, but I have a deep desire to return to running the 400m, 200m, & 800m races as I did in high school.
I am looking to transfer to a University that will allow me to return to my sprinting roots and prove that I can still excel at mid-distance races. I had a rather disappointing end to my high school track & field career, with getting sick for an entire two weeks towards the end of my Junior year season, and Covid-19 hitting before my senior season could begin. I know I can improve a lot upon the times listed on my profile, especially my 800m time because I only ran this race 7 times in high school, and it was always after sprinting the 400m. Soon after I joined the sport, I realized how wonderful it feels to be a part of a group of athletes who encourage and support each other so much. In college, I would love to have a team filled with individuals who are all as motivated and passionate about Track and Field as I am. I also would love to be pushed academically which is why I would favor both an academically and athletically challenging school. Preferably, I would like to attend a college that has a competitive track team and also a nursing program so that I can begin my journey towards becoming a pediatric nurse.
