9/8/17 update: Recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar for having scored in the top 2% on the PSAT/NMSQT of eligible Hispanic/Latino students.
7/17/17 update: Qualified for 17-18 Women's Heptathlon and 100H for the USATF Junior National Olympics; PR in 800M; AP scores: English - 4; Calculus BC - 4; Physics C - 3. Community Service: 25 hours per week (200 total) as Life Guard Aid for HBSJLG program.
I have been competing in track and field since sixth grade and have been coached by Eric Dixon since eighth grade for speed, conditioning and strength. Freshman year at League Finals I won my opening 400M leg against two state ranked 4X400M teams including the eventual 6th place finisher at States. Sophomore year, I was All-Conference in all my events, went to CIF regionals for the 4X100M and 4X400M and broke the school’s oldest girls’ track record, the frosh/soph 200M. Over that summer, with only two weeks of training, I competed in a USATF Junior Olympics heptathlon qualifier. Although I had no prior experience in five events, I qualified for Nationals (only top two go).
This current season (indoor, outdoor & USATF) I was All-State in the pentathlon, set multiple PR's in the LJ, HJ, SP, javelin, 100H, 100M, 200M, 800M and heptathlon, was one of 24 selected for the Arcadia Multis and was the 'Athlete of the Meet" against the league's best team and our top rival. Although injured during a meet and missing four weeks, I came back strong at league finals, was All-Conference and was the team MVP.
I have always found physics interesting, probably stemming from my love of sci-fi. This has propelled me into pursuing an engineering or theoretical physics career. I have been taking advanced math classes since middle school, having taken AP Calculus BC (AP score 4). AP Physics C (AP score 3) and a regional course called Engineering Innovations. There, I learned to manufacture using 3D printing and to design using computer software (CAD). I have also learned arduino programming to improve our teacher’s homemade 3D printer. Additionally, I am in Model United Nations (MUN), an AP class, where I have been both a delegate and a leader as a committee chair.
I am demonstrably highly coachable and versatile in track and field as well as highly inquisitive and motivated academically. With my track potential and capabilities, along with my academics, I will be a strong contributor to a track and field program.
