My name is Sarah Dobbs and I am from Los Angeles, CA. I am 5’5’ and 107 lbs. I am a six-time varsity letter winner in both cross-country and track and a four-time CIF Los Angeles City Finals qualifier. I was elected girls captain of the cross-country and track teams during my sophomore cross-country season. I was a participant at the CIF State Track and Field Championships this past season and I currently hold the frosh-soph cross country and 3200m records as well as the varsity 3200m record at my school.
During my freshman XC season I missed qualifying for state finals by two seconds and was chosen for the All City Second Team. Falling short of making it to the State Finals in 9th grade only served to inspire me for the future.
In addition to lettering as a freshman I received the Scholar Award for maintaining a GPA of 4.0 throughout the season and the Most Outstanding Award. Unfortunately I suffered a mild ankle injury and began exhibiting signs of possible burnout late in my freshman track season, due to the cumulative stress of running, Honors and AP classes, organizing and presiding over a human rights club at Venice High, and volunteering at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.
I came back strong, however, and have qualified for the Los Angeles City Finals every season since then.
Being chosen captain as a sophomore is an rare honor at Venice High School, and I welcomed the responsibility. I feel that the leadership experience I am gaining from my captaincy and from founding and operating the human rights club at my school makes me a good candidate for your team.
In addition to being elected captain during my sophomore cross-country season, I also obtained the Scholar Award and the Most Outstanding Award. During my sophomore track season I won the Highest Honors Award and the Model Athlete Award for academic, athletic, and character excellence.
This past cross-country season, my junior year, I focused primarily on academics (I had four AP courses) and on captaining our team, rather than on my individual goals. I qualified once again for the Los Angeles City Finals but did not qualify for the California State Finals. Nevertheless, I consider my junior cross-country season one of the most successful I have had on my team because I earned the respect and admiration of my teammates and coach.
I am a student-athlete, in that order. Academics are my priority. I challenge myself in the classroom as much as on the course. I was awarded the Scholar Award, Most Outstanding Award, and the Excellent Leadership Award this past cross-country season of my junior year.
This past track season I qualified for the CIF State Track and Field Championships in the 1600m and set my school record in the 3200m by fourteen seconds with a time of 11:29. I am eagerly awaiting cross-country season so I can repeat and improve on my successes of this past season.
Based on my current academic and athletic background, do you think I would be a good fit for your team?
