Shannon Byrne '11 Recruiting Profile

I am 5 ft 4 in, 112 lbs, and have been a passionate distance race competitor for six years now. I have raced on the varsity cross country and track teams since my freshman year at Newbury Park High School and have received All-Marmonte League Recognition as well as All-Ventura Country Recognition. I competed in the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet this year as a junior and clocked in at a 5.00.49 in the 1600 meter. My 800 meter best is a 2:18.33, and my cross country best is an 18:30. I hold several freshman, sophomore, and junior cross country course records for my school, as well as the all-time 1600 meter sophomore and junior records. More than anything I believe in pushing myself and persevering, I am a hard worker with a weighted GPA of 4.63. I look for an academically rigorous school that will challenge me, as well as a strong athletic team that will drive me to surpass my previous accomplishments. I believe I will prefer a larger school with law, business, and accounting programs, but I am very open to a wide range of geographic locations and various divisions. If you recruit me you are recruiting a flexible athlete who will work towards being a strong contributing member to the team, even if that is not constituted in my very first year. The best compliment I have ever received was from a freshman starting on varsity who told me she loves being at practice with me because I bring out the best in her.
