Personal Statement

I have been passionate about shot put and discus since I started it in my freshman year of high school. Starting, I had one coach who only understood the basic mechanics of how to properly throw the shot. Later that same year, he was replaced with an experienced coach; and that was when I learned how to do the spin throw for shot put, along with discus. The following year, my throwing team was presented with no coach; so the head coach of the Track & Field program asked me to step up and be an assistance for the new throwers, being that I was most experienced. The past year I have been self-evaluating my own throwing technique and doing the best to perfect it. Keep in mind, that I have been the only practical throwing coach for the rest of the team as well; so I was practicing and coaching at the same time. It was a difficult task, and my rigorous schedule did not make it any easier. I aim to continue to throw, at the collegiate level, in order to better my technique. I hope that it is easily seen how dedicated I am to my sport and that I can make a difference being a part of a new and better team.

Are you in honor classes?
Yes. I have taken honors classes starting in middle school and have continued this trend throughout high school. I have taken a hold of every honors opportunity that has been offered to me through my high school.
Are you in AP/IB classes?
Yes. I have taken AP classes starting my freshman year in high school. Right now, I am currently an IB candidate, so I am enrolled in classes for that program. This program is similar to AP, but is a little more committing and rigorous.
