Personal Statement
I have been an athlete since I was two years old when I started gymnastics. At age 4 I was competing and was a level 8 when I ended gymnastics during my final year in middle school. My freshman year I joined the track team and started pole vaulting. I managed to PR at 10 feet, even though my school had no pit or poles. In my Sophomore year I joined the Above the Bar Track Club and placed 9th in State. During the Summer I trained with Tracy O'Hara, a former NCAA pole vaulting champion from UCLA. I also competed in the Junior Olympics and was 2nd in regionals in Albuquerque in July 2016. I currently have a PR of 11’4”. This year, my High School got a pit, but lost their pole vaulting coach. As a result I now also coach my team as well as coordinate equipment for each meet. I am thankful for all of the coaching and help I have received and I look forward to improving my skills from now throughout my college years.
