Personal Statement

“If you want to be happy, be”, a wise quote from Leo Tolstoy describing the way I live my life. For as long as I can remember, I have been an extremely competitive, aspiring, and devoted girl that always has a smile on my face.  Those are words said by thousands of girls looking to be recruited, so why does it make me any different? Passion; passion for sports, passion for the medical field, passion for school, and most of all passion to be happy. You see, my passion doesn’t just start and stop on the track.  It goes way beyond that.

When I was young, I started gymnastics, and realized all I wanted to do was gymnastics.  I was a competitive level seven gymnast with USAG and in the best shape of my life at the age of ten.  Although I loved the sport, it started to become too much.  I had severe pain in my ankles, knees, wrists, and back due to repetitive use, and could not stay injury free.  I also was in the gym thirty hours a week as a sixth grader, and realized it was causing more harm than good.  That’s when I decided to retire from my gymnastics career, and discovered track.

As much as I love track, it’s not my only passion.  After gymnastics, I realized I function a lot better when I am busy and under pressure.  I also realized that since track doesn’t take up as much time as gymnastics, I can fill that spare time with lots of other activities I am passionate about.  I am a three sport athlete at my school, by doing cross country in the fall, swim and dive in the winter, and track and field in the spring.  I am also a triathlete, and have a new passion of rock climbing, and just got onto a team for that too.  Along with those five sports, I also am very serious about school.  I maintain my GPA and am currently in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which is an extremely strenuous and challenging experience.  I love giving back to my community, and have over 700 recorded community service hours, and it is my goal to get 1000 by the end of my high school career.  Lastly, I am extremely passionate about the medical field.  I have shadowed a trauma surgeon up in Breckenridge, and am always looking for a good medical experience. I want to go into PreMed in college, and become a trauma surgeon after Med School.  Because of this passion, I am a student aide for athletic training (SATA) at my school and have reported to and helped hundreds of injuries in our student athletes.  I am extremely involved with several kinds of extracurriculars, but am also a huge advocate for being involved in an excited, cheerful student body, and attend almost all the sporting events/games, if I am not working them, to cheer on our school.  I love being involved in so many different activities, and am very passionate about all of them.

All in all, I am a well-rounded and dedicated person.  I aspire for great things in my life, and track barely even skims that surface.  This passion and dedication has gotten me two varsity letters in track and athletic training by my sophomore year, and I am also on the track to receive one letter for cross country, community service, and at least one for academics.  I am passionate about so many things in my life, and all these things are what make me a happy, healthy person. Competing track and field in college is my dream, and I am ready and willing to put in more than enough work to make this happen.
