I didn’t start running track until Freshman year of high school. I started out thinking I was better in the 100, but my coaches kept pushing me to try longer distances and now my best race is the 400. In my first 400 of my sophomore year, I ran a 1:07.98 and two months later dropped to 1:02.51 and my 4x4 team placed 2nd at Leagues. In the last race of my sophomore year, while trying to qualify for State in the 4x400, I had a 1:01.7 split. My goal for my Junior year is to break the school record of 59.11 and qualify for state and I’m also going to challenge myself by running my first 800 this year. To make these goals happen, I joined a competitive track team outside of school and have been working with new coaches all summer and fall. I am excited to see how my hard work and additional coaching has paid off with the High School track season.
I like working hard. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia in first grade. Being the first student with dyslexia in the IB diploma program at my school, I’ve had to educate teachers, administrators and my peers about dyslexia and types of accommodations I need to excel. Hopefully, I have paved the way for other students with dyslexia to succeed in this challenging program as well.
Besides working hard on the track and in school, I keep busy by working as a supervisor and barista at the Cereal Box, volunteering at Easter Seals camp and adaptive PE classes, coaching swim team and other leadership roles at school and church.
I also have a good attitude and I enjoy pushing myself and learning how to grow from my weaknesses. I like seeing the direct results of my hard work in PRs at meets. I can’t wait to continue my track journey into college with new coaching staff and teammates. Along with new challenges and opportunities on and off the track, I look forward and am excited to represent my university with excellence in academics and athletics.
Thank you for your time!
