Madison Walker '21 Recruiting Profile

Sports have always had a large influence on my life, and my families. I have participated in a variety of different sports, from golf to lacrosse to track and field, and my dad even refers to baseball's opening day as his "favorite holiday." From a very young age I was certain I always wanted to have a sport in my life. I believe they give me a chance to be competitive, passionate and even more productive. As I became older I realized running was the activity I found the most enjoyable, very ironic to most, but, running is individual as each win and loss falls upon yourself. Although you have coaches and peers assisting you, when you are in the blocks waiting for the sound of the gun, the outcome solely falls on you. I believe because of this track has helped me grow as a person; each race forces me to deal with difficulties, become more mature, more humble and more proud in every step I take on and off my lane. Track motivates me to work just as hard in the classroom as I do during practice, I push myself by taking multiple honors and AP classes and to complete each assignment to the best of my ability. I balance all of this by telling myself I need to be "all in" in whatever I am doing, if I am on the track I focus on each individual rep and set to make myself a better athlete, in the classroom I focus on any work or studying that needs to be done to make myself a better student, I take pride in being a successful student-athlete. All of the self-discipline this sport has taught me is how I know I want to continue this athletic career I have created in college, not only because of my love of running, but so as I continue and become an adult I learn more about myself and develop a more honest character all around.
