Personal Statement
I am determined. I have ambition that leads me to attain what I set out to achieve. I began running in ninth grade and with that I’ve balanced an international baccalaureate education, countless clubs, and leadership positions over all four years. My experiences as a runner have made me an extremely goal oriented, organized individual who excels under intense pressure and high demands. My love for running overpowers any defeat I face, motivating me to focus forward. My determination is unwavering, and I refuse to surrender to any obstacle.
The lessons I’ve learned from running have spilled into all aspects of my life. I’ve become more dedicated to my academics and community service, improved my organization skills and strengthened my social relationships. Through running I’ve learned work ethic, sportsmanship, perseverance and the importance of a positive attitude.
Training, injury, success, and failure taught me the importance of flexibility and patience: not every step brings me closer to achieving my goals. Going into my senior year I have prioritized running by implementing weight training, technique evaluation, diet optimization, and mileage augmentation. With perseverance I have achieved a high level of performance, yet I know there is much more to come. I’m easily coached because I want to grow and improve in every aspect of my life. Running isn’t just a sport, but a passion that I hope to continue developing at the university level.
