Resilient could be an appropriate word to describe me--I have had a later start then most, as a freak accident caused me to tear my ACL at the start of my freshman track career, putting me out for the season. Sophomore season was primarily a recovery season, and as soon as it was over, I was focused and determined to find my niche in track and field. Starting the summer before my junior year, I have been training for the 400m, which was a new event to me. After close to a year's worth of training, I am able to run a sub-60 400m. I absolutely love track and field, and am determined to do great things--my only regret is that I did not start training sooner, but I'm confident I will be able to hit even more elite times as I continue to work and study my race. I already hold my school record in the 400m!
Also, my junior year I rose as a leader on my track team. With a predominately younger team, I have taken initiative in helping to lead the team at meets and at practice, from heading warm ups to assisting and training others in field events. I was nominated for the Positive Athlete Georgia award, which is a testament to my character.
Aside from track, I am in a rigorous magnet program with a 4.3 GPA. I am on track to take 17 AP/post AP courses, and will have completed 11 AP courses by the end of my junior year. I enjoy foreign languages and also have completed 3 years in Spanish as well as3 years in Latin. I have a 31 ACT score, but plan to retake it after tutoring to increase my score. When I took the PSAT my junior year, I scored in the 98th percentile, and am currently waiting to see if I will be recognized for any form of National Merit. I am part of National Honor Society and student government, as I was elected to the role of Junior Class Secretary.
