Personal Statement
I tried pole vaulting for the first time in August 2017. After taking my first jump, I immediately fell in love with the sport and knew I wanted to compete beyond high school. I have played sports since I was 3 years old, initially focusing on basketball and soccer. I have participated in various club level sports and have always dreamed of competing at the collegiate level. I want to go as far as I can with pole vault in college and beyond. During high school, my athletic focus has been on running, sprinting and basketball which have all conditioned me well for pole vault. I am a focused, serious athlete who is dedicated to training and to adhering to a healthy diet to enhance my overall performance.
Despite my inexperience, I believe that with time I can excel at pole vaulting and become a part of the elite competitors. In my few months of more focused training, I have already progressed to jumping on 13 foot poles with 11’6 and 12 foot grips and am about to jump with 13 foot 6 inch poles. With the winter indoor and spring outdoor seasons approaching, I hope to clear much higher heights after gaining new experience, incorporating my sprinting abilities and improving my technique during this offseason.
Currently, I attend a very academically intense high school where I study hard and maintain a strong GPA even with my busy extracurricular schedule.
I want to attend a college where both the academics and athletics are challenging and competitive. Ultimately, I want to find a college that fits me academically while also allowing me to compete at the highest collegiate level possible.
