Personal Statement
To those around me, I am a calm, happy-go-lucky girl, but on the track I am a competitor. Since I was in elementary, I knew track was the sport for me. It wasn't until high school that I started high jumping though. I came out my freshman year ready to try it and see where it could take me. I've definitely learned a lot from competing so far but I know there is so much more I can learn. Track has pushed me not only physically but mentally too. I've had the opportunity to compete in many different events, both field and track, and the biggest thing I've learned is to think positive. I learned to be confident and aim high going into an event and to be thankful and ready to improve coming out of one. If I don't do as well as I want to do during one event, I can't let it hold me back from competing in my next event; instead, I should use it to drive me forward so I can perform as I am suppose to. Staying positive has also enabled me to push myself physically as well. Whether I am running on the track or jumping into the pit, I know that there is always more I can improve upon and the only person who will ever hold me back is myself. If I say I can do something, then I can do it. If I say I can push harder, then I can push harder. Not only for me, but for the team too.
