I discovered the joy of sprinting at 6 years old. I remember telling my parents that I wanted to run "fast like a race car." Not long after, my parents entered me into open track meets, and I joined my first track club. I have continued to develop as a sprinter over the years and I'm excited to know I have the opportunity to be recruited to participate in track at the collegiate level.
I currently attend Riverwood International Charter School in Atlanta, Ga, but previously attended Jones College Prep HS, located in the heart of downtown Chicago. Unfortunately, we don't have a track at Jones so most training takes place through running along the lake, on trails, etc., lending itself to distance workouts. Historically, we have had a strong distance program, even winning the State Championship recently, however, the sprinting program has been at a disadvantage. The coaches have had less experience in sprint training and the team had less than a dozen total sprinters, as of my first year on the team, making it harder for sprinters like me to succeed. Considering the lack of facilities and training for sprinters, I believe that I have only scratched the surface of my potential.
Despite these circumstances I have been able to thrive, becoming the first sprinter in over 7 years at Jones to hold 2 school records and to qualify for the State meet as a Sophomore. Along the way, I have been named Newcomer of the Year, and MVP two consecutive years. My success has led to a revival of our sprinting program with more girls running sprints more than ever now. My main events are the 200m and 400m, but I also run the 100m and sprint relays. I ran PRs as a Sophomore (1.00.81, 26.8), unfortunately I was INJURED DURING MY ENTIRE JUNIOR YEAR. I expect a breakout year as a Senior.
I work just as hard in the classroom to maintain a high GPA (3.5, 4.2 wt.), even with an all honors classes and the addition of several AP and IB courses. Because of my strong academic performance, I currently rank #13 out of 374 seniors at Riverwood International Charter H.S. (transferred for my senior year).
I wish to attend a college/university where I can reach my potential on and off the track. I hope to find the best fit for me, where I can compete at the highest level possible. With the right coaching and supportive environment, I have the drive and work ethic to master the sport I love and gain the academic and social skills to set me up for success beyond the track.
