Personal Statement
Confident, passionate, and attacking are the three characteristics that describe me. I had the best 400m time on our team Freshmen year, but our coach only wanted me to run relays for the sectional meet. Unfortunately, we didn’t qualify for state. Sophomore year I missed qualifying for state by a tenth of a second in the 400m. Three of the girls in my heat placed, 3rd, 5th, and 7th in the 3A state finals. I was beating them at 300 meters but I didn’t have the proper endurance to finish the last 100m strong. I have worked tirelessly on my conditioning and strength for the past year. Additionally, we have a new coach that has many years experience coaching successful track programs. Recently I competed at an indoor invitational where I got 59.5 which is two seconds ahead of where I was last year and a tenth of a second off of my PR. As you can tell, I’m very passionate about the sport, and I have poured my heart into track. Because of my intense mental preparation, my competitive conference, and my work ethic, I believe I can lower my time to 56-57 seconds in the 400m by the end of this year. I’m very motivated to take my athletic career to the collegiate level, where I believe I can accomplish even more.
Academically, I thrive on surrounding myself with academically oriented people. I gain energy and motivation from friends that challenge me and make me think differently. I believe my success in school is a result of hard work, positive role models, and a curiosity about the world.
An interesting fact about me, my mom was a four-year varsity point guard at the University of Illinois and still holds the all-time assist record. My dad was a walk-on at the University of Illinois track program. Through their guidance, I have come to understand the commitment and discipline required to be successful in a collegiate sport while maintaining a demanding academic schedule. Additionally, my family is avid hikers, skiers, bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
