Hello! My name is Veronica Walkosz and I am a Junior at Lockport Township High School. When I was just about 2 years old I took a step on the ice for the first time at my lovely Ice rink and fell in love with ice skating. Over the years I competed nationally all over the world. I competed with a synchronized skating team and I competed individually. I began running track in 7th grade but growing up I was always into running. My 7th grade track season got shut down early because of the pandemic and I was extremely upset. I started training and working out by myself while I was locked indoors for a few months. As the time flew by I began my 8th grade season and I was more than excited. By the end of the year, I had won 3rd place overall at sectionals and first in the 4x4 relay. My team was very proud of me and my coaches knew I would make so many improvements in high school. Freshman year I began Long jumping and Triple jumping and I fell in love with TJ. If I was bored I would watch triple jump on my computer and watch athletes compete. I wanted to be like them so bad one day. I began winning in TJ at many meets and at that moment I knew I had to work hard to beat some of the top athletes in the state. My freshman and sophomore year had gone by very fast and just like that I was standing on the runway about to take my last jump at sectionals for TJ. I knew that I had to get a good mark to make it to the state. Unfortunately, I was just a little under and I didn’t make it to state. This meet not only made me angry but it pushed me to train harder. Over the summer I began working with coaches and I started seeing progress in my current season as a junior in high school. I strive to go to state this year and show colleges what I can perform. My dream is to jump and win at a college meet so I can show everyone that at the end of the day, all the hard practices and workouts were worth every second.
I am now a Senior in High school and I did infact qualify to go to the IHSA State Finals my junior year and I competed again the top athletes in Illinois in the TJ. I’m ready to train hard this summer and qualify for state for not only TJ but LJ as well. My dedication for this sport will never come to an end and like I said I’m ready for my last season!!
My indoor Senior Season was a success. I had many PRs at the Indoor State Championships (TopTimes). I finished 2nd overall with a TJ of 11.47m
