Personal Statement
Going to the Illinois High School Association State Finals for girls track as a freshman was a critical point in my running career. Before high school, I had only started running cross country and track in the eighth grade after moving to Illinois. This experience at state brought me closer to my new teammates, and it further solidified my decision to pursue running. Ever since the 4x400m and 4x800m relays that day, I have learned more about my abilities and determination as well as areas where I need to improve such as a strong finish and endurance not just in running, but school too.
Last season, I was so grateful to have been a part of such an incredible team that won our sectional, made it to state, and became All-State in our 4x800m relay. Throughout both my cross country and track seasons, I have truly comprehended what it means to be a leader and to unite a team together. In addition, my toe breaking before the indoor season this year showed me the importance of patience, a strong work ethic, and not giving up when making a comeback. I’m looking for a program that will be a fit athletically but also academically. As a two-sport athlete and multiple MVP award recipient, I know that I have the leadership, strong work ethic, and skill to be a key asset to your team!
