Personal Statement

Hello colleges! I am  a student athlete from Riverside Brookfield High School, who has a passion for cross country, track and triathlon. Ever since I was six years old, running was my hiatus from reality and the stressors of school. I plan on being a driven team leader my senior year for both my track and cross country teams. I am determined to make the team both inviting and exciting. I strongly believe that a close knit team is a successful one. My humourous personality will bring warmth and spirit.  Being the team clown is my forte.

Funny story, when I was about eleven, my dad had an epiphany about me being a triathlete. I immediately became enamored with the sport. To this day missing any, let alone all of the three disciplines, throws me of track (see what I did there). Over the course ;) of four years, I have developed an addiction to throwing all of my attention into the sports. Though running is my passion, biking is my specialty leaving swimming as the weakest link (still an amazing sport). Before I got to the elite level, I did the majority of my races with my dad. We got all the way up to the olympic distance, but shortly realized that moving to a competitive team would be a better suit. In the off season, while balancing school in one hand, I swim six days, run five days, bike three days, and weight lift three mornings. I qualified for nationals in 2016 and 2017 for triathlon, to my surprise, and am planning on qualifying again in 2018.

I believe that this dedication and perseverance at the elite level will serve me well in college. Training for these endurance sports, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA, requires a huge amount of commitment that makes me feel alive. I can not help but be at home when I’m on a track or a cross country course. Maybe it is the exciting memories and feeling of being in a huge game. For me it is a giant arena and there is a battle to the finish.
