My name is Shelby and I am entering my senior year at Chesterton High School in Indiana. Chesterton High School is a member of the highly competitive Class-6A Duneland Athletic Conference. My current GPA is a 4.0 and higher. I am enrolled in honor courses such as AP English and Honor's Geometry. My parents are middle school teachers and have always encouraged me to be a well-rounded student who excels in both academics and athletics. My goal is to not only contribute to a team athletically but academically as well.
Bragging is not my thing though I know you need info. so here we go.... As a freshmen I played JV soccer in which I was the only player to not come off the field during the season and I also ran as a varsity athlete in the 800 and 4X8 relay in track. During my 2016 freshmen track season the varsity cross-country coach and team encouraged me to join in the upcoming season which meant I had to leave my great friends and coaches from the soccer team. It was a very difficult decision though important to me that I contact my soccer coach before making the switch. With my coaches and teams support I made the transition to cross-country and began training in the summer of 2016. During my first cross-country season I was able to break the 5K school record. I have come to realize that distance running is where I need to be.
Going into track this past season (2018) I got my first injury slipping on ice (hamstring strain). Though it was aggravating I stayed positive, cross trained hard and was able to medal and receive 1st Team- "All State" honors in the Outdoor State meet at Indiana University. (3200). The injury held me to running no more than 10 miles per week. Better now :) My best time in the 3200 last season was an 11:14 (outdoor-2017) and this season I was able to go 10:52.21 at the State meet. I did cross train painfully hard to help maintain needed competitive levels on the track. The injury was not fun but I did what I had to do to compete.
So in my second ever season of xc (2017) I was happy to drop and average of 1:10 seconds per course from my sophomore year. I was so happy to get "All State" honors and place 13th in the State Championships in which Indiana has no classes. My best time was an 18:06 and I was able to beat the girls in the area that kicked my butt last year. Now I am training hard to meet my goals in Track. I want to go way down in my 3200 and 1600 and next year in xc I would like to be in the 17's and be a top 10 in the State.
I want to listen, learn, train hard, and improve with team members who love to run and have similar goals. I want to contribute to a collegiate program as a student athlete. My goals are simple- to earn an opportunity to contribute and run with an outstanding team and to earn a quality education. I am eager to continue this journey and I thank you for giving me a look. I will always give my best! Sincerely, Shelby
