Hello, I am Makenna Laffey. I go to Mt. Vernon High School (Fortville). I started running when I was in third grade. I went to fitness club during elementary school to prepare to run the Geist 5k with my older sister and dad. After that race I knew running was something I wanted to keep pursuing. As I got older I started to consider running in college. I realized that running in college was a huge goal of mine. I know not many people get to experience the high intense levels of college athletics, but I wanted to train to get to that point.
I train all year round with my coaches and teammates. I am a strong encourager and love motivating others to push through the pain. I try to lead by example by persevering even when it's hard. I am a team leader and help keep everyone positive and successful. To prepare for cross country and track season, I lift, base build mileage, cross train etc.
In the classroom I work extremely hard to maintain a high GPA. I try to take advanced level classes to challenge myself. I have received school board scholars twice and honor rolls every year since 6th grade. I set high standards for myself because I know it will help me in the long run. My classmates help encourage and push me toward my goal. I would really like to graduate in the top 15 of my graduating class.
I want to find a college that suits my interests and ethics. This would include being challenged in the classroom and on the course/track. I'm looking for a good team environment and leaders. I want to compete at the highest level possible, while keeping all my options open. I hope to become a great leader and role model to younger athletes.
