I have not been throwing the shotput and discus long. However, I have made remarkable leaps in the short time I have been throwing through a lot of hard work. I started throwing the shotput during my sophomore year of track, averaging around a 30ft throw. During the winter of my junior year, I began to lift weights to build strength in the shot put. By my junior year, I averaged around 36ft-37ft, falling short of State Qualifier with a throw of 37ft 11.25in at Regionals. I am extremely determined to exceed my goals this track season, as I spent my entire summer lifting weights and doing a lot of repetitions (especially in the discus which I will get to). I have been throwing every other day, and am averaging 39ft-40ft as of right now. I hope to increase this to mid 40's by track season.
Here is a list of my old PR's for weightlifting (from January of 2016)
Deadlift: 255
Squat: 205
Hang Clean: 140
Bench Press: 115
Here is a list of my PR's for weightlifting (as of September 4, 2016)
Deadlift: 300lbs
Squat: 295lbs
Hang Clean: 155lbs
Bench Press: 135lbs
My discus career actually started this past track season, which was my junior year of high school. I average probably around a 107ft throw all track season and set a new school record with a 117ft throw. Over the summer, I put in numerous hours correcting and quickening my footwork for the discus. I spend 5 days a week throwing in my barn, since my dad purchased a net for me to throw into. Once a week, we will go to the school and throw. I am currently averaging 125ft in the discus throw (my best being a 130 a week ago). My goal is to be in the high 140's and 150's this upcoming track season in 2017.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you can see the determination and drive I have to compete collegiately. I have put in hours upon hours of work and I am not done yet. I will be competing in the Lambert Fieldhouse Individual Track Meet at Purdue University on March 4, 2017 for the shot put. Thanks again for reading!
