Personal Statement

My name is Niamh Guest and I am 18 years old. I first started running track when I was 10 years old and joined my first club Perth Strathtay Harriers. I represented PSH for 4 years before switching club to join Pitreavie AAC which is my current club. During my first season with Pitreavie we won the Scottish National 4x200m relay Championship and then went on to win it again the year later in 2012.
In 2012 I represented Scotland for the first time in the 4x100m Relay at the UK School games which that year were held in the Olympic Stadium in London. Since then I went onto represent Scotland twice in 2013 at UK School Games and the British Schools International. Then in 2014 I represented Scotland at the Celtic International event. My main event is sprint hurdles, last year I was ranked 2nd in Scotland at Under 18 over the 100m Hurdles and 5th at Under 20. I won a Silver medal at the National Junior (U20) Championships in the 100m Hurdles and placed 5th in the National Senior Championships. I also got a bronze in the 100m hurdles at the Scottish Schools Championships and silver in the 100m. Last season I also captained my School Track and Field team to a win at the Regional Championships, this being the highlight of my school track career so far as our School had not won the Championship since 1988.
My ultimate goal is to represent my Country at Senior level. I am very ambitious and hard working and this is why I wish to study and run track in the USA.  I believe that this will give me the best opportunity to run track at a high level whilst also being able to further my studies. I realise that my academic studies are just as important as my times on the track and this is why I work very hard to make sure that my grades remain high. I have a current GPA of 3.58 and have been presented with certificates the last 4 years for my academic excellence at School.
During High School I represented my School as a 'Young Sports Ambassador' and I also represented my county at meetings and conferences where I was able to help develop and improve sport within my School and my county. I also coached my Schools Track and Field team within the younger School years twice a week.
After suffering a severe ankle injury I was released from my NLI(see attached in transcripts).
