Personal Statement
My name is Lauren Farry and I will be graduating from Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 2015. I began running with my father when I was 10 years old and have grown to love the sport of running. As my experience in the sport increased so has my commitment to running. I have worked very hard for the last five or so years to not just improve my times but also my mental toughness. From experience I have learned that sometimes you need to push through the pain when your body tries convincing you to slow down or give up. I have also learned that the only way to improve is through practice and I will do whatever it takes in order to get better.
I have had a lot of success in both cross country and track in my freshman and sophomore years. In both of my cross country seasons, I ran in the MIAA All-State Championships. This year my 5K PR was 19:22, and I was named MVP for the county. For both my freshman and sophomore track seasons I ran in the MIAA All-State Championships in the 2-mile, coming in 17th in the state as a freshman, and 12th in the state as a sophomore. This year I also set a PR in the mile of 5:23. Although I am happy with these accomplishments, I am working hard to improve even more.
I also extend my hard work ethic into my studies and will continue to do so. Each quarter I have made the high honor role and next year I will be taking 3 AP courses to challenge myself. I plan to major in either Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering, as I am very interested in science and feel passionate about protecting the environment. As I approach college I intend to do my best in both sports and academics just as I will do once I am in college.
