After playing soccer in the fall of my freshman year of high school, it was time to choose a winter sport. I ended up joining the indoor track team as a way to stay active during the winter and have fun with my friends. I was a pretty good distance runner in middle school, so I trained with the upperclassmen on the distance team and ended up having such a good season that I won the MVP award and scored the most points for the team. Ever since, I have focused on running and have been the top distance runner for my regional high school as a Freshman, Sophomore and Junior. During the three years I have been on the team, the girls cross-country, indoor, and outdoor track teams have gone from never winning a meet, to winning the League Championships for all three sports this last school year. We did this all despite never having an indoor or outdoor track due to the construction of our new high school. We had to train on back roads, parking lots, and fields. It was a true team effort and it taught me to appreciate my teammates and my coaches for all their hard work.
For my college goals, I am interested in natural sciences, business, and design, so I guess you could say I’m still undecided. I simply want to go to a great school with great professors, motivated students, and a long list of courses to choose from so I can learn and figure out a major. As for my high school goals, I want to continue getting honor roll grades in all my classes and to continue to challenge myself with AP courses.
Being part of the cross-country and track teams in high school has been a great experience for me and I would love to continue running at the college level. My school’s new outdoor track will finally be ready this year, so I am hoping to get even better times in the 400, 800, 1 mile, and 2 mile by working on my pace and lap times.
