I am a junior at the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan but participate in sports at Bloomfield Hills High School. I have been competing in track and field since the sixth grade but this is the first year that I have trained for track during the winter. I also played basketball from the seventh grade until my sophomore year.
As a sophomore, I was all-league and all-region in the 100 meters and ran on two relay teams that made it to the Michigan State championships. All of the members of those teams are back this year so we are all excited about the opportunity to improve on last year ’s performances. I was close to the State qualifying time in the 100 but an injury limited my training towards the end of the season.
I was inspired by my experience at States. Although I love basketball, I wanted to dedicate as much time as possible to track because I wanted to see what I could accomplish this year. In addition to the 100 and the relays, I am going to participate more frequently in the 200 and the long jump.
I’m looking forward to a college environment where I can be exposed to new experiences and grow as a person. This means a challenging and interesting academic schedule but it also means that I want to continue to develop as an athlete
