Personal Statement

My name is Anna Nagelhout, I am 17 years old, and currently a Junior at Canton High School.  Beginning in sixth-grade running has evolved into a large passion of mine that I have tried to utilize in many different ways, from starting a blog and healthy eating Instagram page to leading a "Brain Break" athletics program for struggling elementary school kids in my community.  Running is something I am devoted to putting my all into because I love it- the thrill of getting to go out and challenge the limits of what you think your body can do draws me in, and I believe the sport is unique for this reason.

I enjoy sharing my love of the sport with others and thus was honored to be our team's first ever Junior captain this past year.  Leading is one of my strengths, both through positive encouragement as well as actions.  I may not be the loudest, but I'll surely get down to work and put forth full effort into any given task.

I am incredibly self-motivated and have never needed anyone to get on me or tell me to work harder, if there's one thing I can promise it's that I will always commit to giving it my all and love to learn new things.  Challenges excite me, whether it's a daunting new workout or a difficult course, I'm ready to give it my best shot!  I'm always ready to put in the extra work and understand that there is so much more to getting better at a sport than simply going to the practices.

This work ethic and love of a challenge applies to my schoolwork as well, I am currently taking on the rigorous IB program and academics is a top priority of mine.   I value having a balance and excelling athletically while also keeping up good grades in the classroom.
