Personal Statement
My name is Caitlin Rose and I run for the Greater Flint Track Club, and Grand Blanc High School. I run cross country, track, play soccer, and I’m an excellent student that regularly participates in AP class work and a variety of after school activities. I’m relatively new to running since I primarily played soccer growing up, but I have found a passion for racing that I expect to further blossom during my coming years of high school.
Grand Blanc is a large Michigan division 1 school. I currently have a 3.7 GPA, and have taken a course load comprised of several AP classes, and French 3 while competing in the highest-level sports Michigan has to offer. I played club soccer in the fall, and ran XC, ran indoor track in the winter and then played high school soccer, and track in the spring. In the upcoming seasons, I will be lowering my soccer load dramatically, and only running track in the spring to concentrate on being the best runner I can be. I received a concussion last fall playing soccer that totally derailed my XC season, but I was 100% healthy by winter track, and had a successful winter and spring track season.
I’m a tenacious, hardworking competitor. I’m looking for a college where I can excel academically and athletically. My freshman year in high school I was the best mid-distance/distance runner at my school by far so I struggled finding girls to run with, but I tried to work with the boys, and anyone that would run with me. That was tough, but I’ve finally found a coach with the Greater Flint Track Club, and competitive girls to run with this last winter. During the short time, I worked with them I shaved more than 10 seconds off my 1600M time, and I expect more dramatic improvements to come after a real summer training program. I run every day sometimes early in the morning and sometimes late in the evening. I would love to find a college program with girls like me where we can push each other to be the best that we can be. I’ve lacked that so far to a large degree in high school so it makes finding a college program that offers top competition very important to me. I want to find a coach, and a school that I can connect with and feel comfortable with. A college where I can grow as a young woman, a student, and as an athlete.
