Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Nicole Marco. I will be a 2020 graduate and am currently entering my junior year season in track. I am hoping to continue running competitively in cross country and track at the collegiate level.
I was first introduced to running in a grade school program called “Girls on the Run”. This program introduces young girls to many of life’s core values through running. Running and competing continue to teach me the value of hard work, joy, leadership, disappointment, teamwork, and humility among others.
Distance running has taught me patience and that progress is measured in years; not weeks or seasons. Sometimes it is necessary to sacrifice short term performance in order to achieve longer term goals. I understand that, as in many endeavors, running will provide both highs and lows and that consistency, perseverance, and emotional balance are key attributes to success. These attributes have not only been of value in my running but also in the classroom where I have set high goals.
As stated above, I hope to continue with competitive running at the collegiate level. I look forward to being a member of a supportive, close-knit team that strives for excellence on the track and in the classroom while also serving their school and community.
