Personal Statement
I push to be my best for myself and my teammates on and off the track. On the track I know running is just a mindset as a sprinter the 4x4 is a long race, but no matter the odds I push myself to run my fastest race every race for myself and my teammates. I knew I would love track in fifth grade when I came to a high school meet and watched one of our girls advance to state. One of my teammate's dad told us at our first meet in seventh grade that we should never get our hopes up because we'd be lucky to place. We never believed him and we set out to prove him wrong. I will always remember the relief and joy that filled me when our relay first qualified for state. State was a dream just out of reach. We spent a lot of our time training, researching, and practicing our hand offs. We didn't dare talk about our chance just in case we jinxed ourselves, but we made it. Last year our relay changed often and we struggled to replace our third leg. We didn't have the years of experience with our new leg, but she was ready to compete and shared our drive to compete. This year two of our legs graduated, but we found two replacements and will work to hopefully go to state again. Being a senior does not seem real. I do not want to think about running my last race. I am ready for the next adventure in my life and pursue my dreams in art education, but I am not ready to say goodbye to the moment right before the gun or how time stops in the midst of a handoff.
