Personal Statement
Being a student athlete to me means being able to maintain good grades and improve yourself at sports at the same time. It means being devoted to education, helping your community, and being a good role model and setting down steps for others to follow. Being outgoing and thriving in a crowd, but yet still being able to be comfortable and shine on your own. Running Varsity track since freshman year has taught me how to manage time, appreciate those who help and support, and how to set a goal for myself.
Some of my proud achievements in Varsity outdoor track and field are qualifying in regionals freshman, sophomore, and junior year in all my events. The events I run are the 100m, 200m, 300mh, javelin, Long jump, and the 4x1 relay. I don’t throw javelin anymore because it hurts my elbow too much. My junior year instead of playing Varsity Basketball I decided to start up the WLC Varsity indoor track team. I was the only member this 2018-2019 season which was tough, but I made the best out of it and am glad I made this decision. I practiced with the town next over (Milford, NH), and ran the 300m, and 55m dash. My main event in indoor was the 300m, the 55 dash was for me to keep busy. My season was on hold for awhile due to shin splints, but once I recovered I could see improvement in my times. My senior year I decided to run indoor again, this time I had 10 people on my team. I was still captain and improved in my events.
Track is a big part of my life, it contributed a lot to who I am today. But there are other factors in my life that helped shape me. Such as my family, my community at school, my religion, my friends, my culture, my coaches, and other sports. I'm a proud first generation Muslim of Syrian immigrants. My parents have taught me to overcome any obstacle so I can reach the goals I set for myself. They showed me that with hardwork and determination I can excel at anything. My religion taught me to be patient, calm, and respectful and kind towards others. My small school has a tight knit community that helps students find out who they are. It enlightened me to take any opportunity given to me and make the best of it. My friends educated me with different ideas and opinions. They taught me how to be open minded as well as still question and be curious at the same time. Everything around me has something to offer, and for me to appreciate and acknowledge.
Every student athlete is different, we all have different qualities, hobbies, and backgrounds. But what we all have in common is that we are all hard workers, we’re devoted, we all set goals. Every student athlete describes themselves differently, but for me I believe i'm unique. I’m Rama Koudsi, first generation Syrian, proud Muslim, bilingual, hard worker, devoted student, three varsity sport athlete, student athlete.
