I am currently a junior at Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico and am a very passionate track athlete and serious student. I am seeking to run at the next level for an elite academic institution, allowing me to compete with the best in the classroom and on the track. For many years I was a competitive gymnast and only began running track in 8th grade, so I am a relative newcomer in the world of track and field. By the end of my 8th grade season, I was moved to Varsity and helped my team earn a 3rd place finish in the 4x400 at State. I am very experienced in relays (4x400, Medley). As a high school sophomore, I ran my first 800m and ended up winning State in my 4th 800m race ever.
In March 2018, I ran my first 1600m (5:15 at mile high). While I didn't run a lot of open 400s this season, I am the 400 anchor in the 4x400 and consistently run 57-59 splits, making me a key contributor to earning team points. In the 2018 season, I state qualified the 400, 800, 1600, Sprint Medley and the 4x400. (I also run XC for Academy. For reference, my 5K PR is 19.50.6.) I defended my title as 800m 5A state champion this May (2:15), running the fastest 800 time in all divisions (1A-6A). Shortly after finishing my 800 at State, I also medaled in the 1600 in only my third race ever. My day ended with a second place finish in the 4x400, resulting in a team championship.
I have expressed my interest to run in college with my coaches, so they have recently added different distances. Previously, I was not afforded the opportunity to run some of the mid-distance races because my school is the state powerhouse in distance and didn't need me to score points in those events. However, we are short on sprinters, so I focused on the 400m to score points for the team. I tell you all of this only to explain my rawness in the sport and ask you to consider my upside potential. My body of work may be brief compared to others, but I believe my early results reflect my drive, passion, and willingness to stretch outside my comfort zone. Most importantly, I love to compete!
