I first became interested in Cross Country as a Freshman in high school. My grandfather had previously coached Cross Country at a local high school and my mother was a cross country runner in high school. They both loved the sport and it made me interested in the challenge. I love to compete and to try and learn new things. Running has taught me how to push my mind and body to the limits. It has taught me that my hard work will give me the results I want. Running has also taught me that when I am feeling as though I cannot go on and want to give up, that is not an option, completing my goal and doing my best for the team and myself is the only option. When it is just you and your thoughts on the racecourse, you have to decide what kind of person and teammate you are, one who gives in to the pain of running or one who gives their all and fights to the finish with pride. These lessons have helped with my academics as well. In addition to Cross Country and Track, I enjoy school and learning and I have always held a GPA above 4.0 and I take pride in my schoolwork with my main interests being the sciences. I am a member of the National Honor Society, New Mexico Youth Government and I am a violinist in the Santa Fe Youth Symphony. I am well rounded, a very hard worker and I enjoy challenges and I like to have fun with my classmates and teammates. My long term goal is to work within the medical field someday. After being selected and completing two summers as a cohort in the Healthcare Exploration Program (HEP) through Christus St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe and shadowing doctors, nurses and EMTs, I know the medical field is my future and a good college education will help me on my way to achieving my goals. Ideally, running and academics would get me there.
