My athletic career began at a young age when I signed up to play soccer and softball in my local town league. The separate seasons allowed me to play both, but soccer eventually became travel soccer and consumed nearly every day of the week. Although I may not have been the most skillful player at each sport, I noticed that I was usually the fastest player on the field. I had no trouble stealing a base, stretching a single into a double or beating a defender to the ball. Since I realized that my speed was my greatest asset, I decided to run spring track for my 7th grade team at Jonas E. Salk Middle School.
After the first meet I settled into running the 55M dash, the 100M dash, the 4x100M relay, and the competed in the long jump. Right away I was faster than most other runners and won the majority of my races. I formed a formidable 4x100M relay team with my friends who were also winning their individual races and as a result we were undefeated in both 7th and 8th grade. I continued to work hard at practice to improve my times over the course of the two seasons. At my last track meet in June, I set personal bests in all of my events. I ran 8.1 seconds in the 55M dash, 14.7 seconds in the 100M dash and my relay team set a school record at 58.8 seconds. I also managed to jump 12.2 feet in the long jump.
In addition to my love of sports, I am also an accomplished competition dancer. Since the age of 3 I have danced in lyrical, tap and jazz in National and World competitions on the East coast. I have also trained in ballet, hip hop and acrobatics and was also given a part in the Eglevsky Ballet Company Christmas show performance. Dance allows me to stay fit and flexible and will continue to be a part of my life until the end of high school.
This past year, as an 8th grader, I was also given the opportunity to try out for the MacArthur High School Varsity Dance Team. I was one of only a handful of girls to make the team as a freshman.
As a 7th grader I became a member of the National Honor Society and recorded 12 consecutive semesters on the honor roll with an average of 95 or better in middle school. As I enter high school I will be carrying a full load of classes including four honors subjects.
I have created a profile on this website in hopes of not only connecting with college coaches but also to seek guidance with the difficult decision of choosing the right school for me. My goal is to find a school where I can not only excel at track but also academics. I wish to graduate on time with a bachelor's degree but I am currently uncertain which major I will chose. I am looking forward to my upcoming high school experience as well as the excitement of choosing my future college.
