Personal Statement
My name is Catherine Farrell and I am a junior at Smithtown High School East. My first experience with track and field was at a summer recreation program when I was 10 years old. The coach saw the potential I had to succeed and from that moment on, track became the center stage of my life. I first joined a travel club where I went on to compete in many established USATF and AAU Junior Olympic championships, which exposed me to many talented runners who I aspired to be in the future.
In high school I ran all three seasons of cross country and track and field and have developed such a passion for this sport. This was seen by my coaches who granted me the opportunity to be a captain in order to lead the team that I am so dedicated to. While I do spend a lot of time on the track, my performance in the classroom is just as important to me. I take great pride in my school work just as much as my athletic endeavors.
This is why I wish to continue my running career on the college level so I can push myself both in the classroom and on the track. I wish to challenge myself in all aspects of my academic and athletic life and believe that competitive college athletics is the place where I can not only make myself proud but my parents who have supported my dreams since the beginning.
