Personal Statement
I have been an athlete since I started kindergarten. As an elementary student, I was always told I was a fast runner and that I should be involved in track when I was older. I started track my seventh grade year and fell in love with running. I have ran outdoor track ever since, while running indoor track and cross country in the off season. Not only do I run track and cross country, but I have also been a varsity cheerleader for four years, played softball since I was five years old and played basketball until this past season.
In November of 2012, I tore my ACL during basketball season. I had surgery on December 19, 2012 and was fully released to play sports June 20, 2013. Due to my injury, I missed out on my entire sophomore basketball and track seasons. When the fall of 2013 came, I was able to compete in cross country again and later, indoor track. My indoor season resulted in me resetting the 55 meter dash, and the 60 meter dash record at my high school. Along with my 55 meter dash and 60 meter dash records, by the time I graduate I wish to have broken the 100 meter dash record as well.
My freshman year I went to regional finals in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 4X200 meter relay and 4X400 meter relay. My team qualified for regionals in the 4X400, but failed to make it to finals. Missing my sophomore season, my junior season wasn't as successful as I hoped. I was able to improve my times as the outdoor season progressed and did receive the High Point award for the second time of my high school career. I qualified in the 100 meter dash for district finals, but unfortunately didn't qualify for regionals. In my opinion, I think that after a year off with my ACL I wasn't at 100% the entire season. Although my individual success wasn't as great as I had hoped, the 4X100 meter relay that I anchored for, reset our school record with a time of 52.33 seconds.
My minor set-backs and disappointments have allowed me to realize how much I have to work in the off season in order to meet my goals. My goal is to be the best that I can be in track and receive an offer to a run at the collegiate level. I plan to work to my upmost ability in order to make my family, school and community proud.
