Personal Statement

Track and field is my life. I am beyond passionate about this sport and I am willing to push myself as far as possible to achieve my goals. I am very dedicated and have put many hours in during the off season as well as in season. My biggest dream is to one day become a professional runner. I know to make this happen I have a long way to go and a lot of work to put in but I am willing to try my hardest to do so. Right now however I am focusing on getting to a place where I can run at the collegiate level to better myself and learn more about the technical aspects of the hurdles. I also would like to eventually be a coach, and coach hurdlers some day

I did not decide I wanted to run track in college till my sophomore year in high school however, that year I broke both school hurdle records and was the OCC runner up in both the 100mH and 300mH(this was my first time running). I ended up making it to regional finals for the 300mH and missed qualifying for Division 1 States by placing 6th when the top 4 was taken. Due to this I decided I would never come that close to not qualifying ever again. This is why the week after regionals I started entering summer track meets unattached until I found a summer team called the Pacesetters. Since then I Qualified for 4 events (4x400m,4x100m, 100mH, 400mH) for the 2012 National Junior Olympic Championships. Through the winter I continued to pursue the hurdles and competed in the 2013 Indoor New Balance Nationals and was 3rd on the 2013 Divison 1 Indoor Ohio State podium. In the spring time I dropped 1.3 seconds off my 100mH 2 seconds off my 300mH I was 3rd on the Divison 1 Outdoor State podium for the 100mH and runner up for the 300mH. I also dropped 4 seconds off my 400mH time  from last summer and finished 12th at New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the 400mH. Coming up I hope to become an All American at the 2013 USATF National Junior Olympic Chmpionships. My goals for my senior year are as follows: 8.7 60mH 13.8 100mH 41.9 300mH 59.9 400mH and to be double State Champion in both hurdles.

Running track and field in college is very important to me because looking forward I cant imagine ever hanging my spikes up. I want to be involved in a program that helps me grow as an athlete and a student. My goals for college are to become a conference champion and eventually an NCAA All American. I know with hard work, dedication, and support I can achieve these goals. I would also like to be challenged in the classroom and graduate with a business degree. I have taken multiple honors and AP courses during my time as a high school student so I hope to continue to be challenged throughout college.
