Personal Statement
My name is Teagan Foreman, and my goal is to compete on a track team at the collegiate level for a university or college that has a strong academic focus.
At the age of five, I was recruited to join a competitive cheer team due to my compact size, strength, and ability to tumble. After 3 years in this sport, I knew my real passion was tumbling. I spent 4 years working my way up to a level 10 power tumbler and a level 9 trampolinist in the USAG sport of Trampoline and Tumbling. I dedicated 5 days to training each week, sometimes putting in over 30 hours in the gym weekly. In June 2016, I finished 3rd in the country at Junior Olympic Nationals as a level 9 Power Tumbler, competing against the nation's 27 best tumblers. While I would love to continue with TNT in college, I have made the decision to focus on another sport I have excelled in over the past several years, which is track.
As a member of my Middle School's track team, I realized I could leverage many of the skills I learned in gymnastics in sprinting. My strength, speed, and strong focus on training gave me an edge over my competition and fostered my love of the sport. I went to our conference finals in both 7th and 8th grade, with our 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, both finishing in 2nd place my 8th grade year. I ended my 8th grade season being the 2nd fastest on my team of 90+ girls.
I continued to focus on the skills needed to be successful in sprinting and leading my team to wins. I was one of only three athletes who received their Varsity Letter as a Freshman, and my quickness out of the blocks helped me achieve (then) PR in the 100m open at 13.22 (now 13.01). My coach found he could also leverage my small size around the curves in the 4x100 relay, and achieving a personal split time of 11.88 in this event.
I will continue to train with my HS coach throughout the off-season and am also training with a personal coach to strengthen my agility skills, increase my speed coming out of the blocks, and perfect my running technique and mechanics.
My classroom performance is also just as important to me. I am an Honor’s Student with a 3.7+/- GPA and have been named to the High Honor Roll each quarter of High School, so far. I recently scored a 28 on my ACT. I am leaning towards a career in Sports Medicine possibly with a focus in Sports Psychology or Kinesology. I am an active member of my High School’s Young Life group, which is a faith-based organization focused on encouraging young adults to grow their spiritual interest and faith. This group is very important to me and helps keep me balanced and humble in every aspect of my life.
In summary, I want to leverage the athletic ability I have been blessed with and look forward to the opportunity to be a student-athlete in college. I will put in the time needed to be successful both in the classroom, as well as on the track, and will strive to be the best teammate I can be.
