Personal Statement
I truly became in love with sports in 4th grade when I won my first track hurdle race. I loved how my hard work would show results if I persevered, and it inspired me to join a gymnastics club. I was a gymnast for a few years, and when I got to high school I decided to quit and try something new. I joined track again freshman year at the end of the season and thought pole vault looked really cool. It only took until I bent my first pole for me to fall in love with the sport. I didn't get much practice because the high school season was soon ending, so that prompted me to join a club. I started pole vaulting at Willamette Striders Track Club in July of 2017 and have been training there ever since. I know I'm late to the game, but the amount of improvement I've had in the past years has only encouraged me to try harder, and to reach for higher dreams. One of my dreams is to become an Emergency Department Nurse Practitioner. I am working to improve my vaulting, my athleticism, and strive to come out a better person from it. I didn't realize how much I want to vault in college until I tried to imagine my life in the future without it.
