Personal Statement
I began track at age eleven and have loved hurdles since the first day I jumped one. I like that track is a competition against myself more than anything else. For me, it's about being the best I can possibly be and I try to apply that to all aspects of my life, not just track. I am involved in many activities, including National Honor Society, being the president of our Key Club and trumpet section leader in our symphonic band for two years, and art, where I was awarded Outstanding Art Student of the Year. My greatest accomplishment was an almost 5 second personal record in the 300 hurdles from the end of my sophomore year to the end of my junior year.
I attend a very small school where we do not have a hurdle specific coach, so a lot of the time I am responsible for my own workouts. I believe that this has improved my work ethic and made me very coach-able because I am open to any feedback I can get! Also, I always try to build up and support my teammates and all people around me. You never really know how hard anyone else's life can be, and a kind word can go a long way. I hope to continue competing and improving my times and technique at a college where I can also earn a degree in nutrition/dietetics.
