Personal Statement
My favorite word is pertinacity. I strive to be persistently tenacious not only in athletics, but also in academics, service, and most importantly the development of my faith and character.
A coach once told me: "Every choice you make strengthens a habit". That has stuck with me. I am constantly asking myself if what I am doing is improving my work ethic, preserving my integrity, and building my character and skill. I have huge goals that I want to accomplish and high standards for the type of person I want to become. I constantly strive to make decisions that are in line with my aspirations.
Many of my mentors, teachers, and coaches have taught me the importance of goal-setting. I have an increasingly extensive list of goals on my computer that includes: breaking my school's record (11'1"), winning state in the vault this year, pole vaulting in college, and becoming a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I want to go to a school where I can pursue my athletic goals as well as prepare myself to become a police officer or lawyer (I am undecided between the two) on my way towards eventually working for the FBI.
Wherever I end up for college, I will contribute to that environment. I am coachable and positive. I strive to be a leader through my actions and words. I love to work hard and challenge myself.
I simply love to pole vault. I find so much joy in the sport and cannot get enough of it. I would be so thankful for an opportunity to continue vaulting in college.
