Personal Statement
The very first time I ran on a track was when I was 2 years old at a summer all-comers meet. Running quickly became a part of who I am as my mom, a former college track athlete, continued to enter me in all-comers meets just for fun. I joined a middle school track team to start competing, which helped me realize my love for running. Since then, at every meet I make sure to share encouraging words to my teammates, and at the end of all my races, I give my competitors high-fives. It was during my training for high school track, when others helped me understand my potential. I couldn’t wait to compete, but Covid changed things for me during track season. I joined a club that summer so I could help improve my times, and practice/compete with people who have the same competitive spirit and similar goals.
I am committed to my sport, making sure that I keep my mind and body healthy and always striving for improvement. While practicing, I have a positive mindset; I focus on what I am being taught in the gym, on the track, and during team meetings so that I can make adjustments to help improve. At the Junior Olympics, my coach helped me learn how to stay relaxed, and I was able to use that lesson during my race the next day, resulting in a PR in the 200m and the 100m!
My schoolwork and grades are very important to me, I recently transferred to Central Catholic High School because I wanted a more focused academic environment, to prepare myself for college. Right now I am unsure about a future profession, but I know I will find a major and earn a degree that lets me help other people by making an impact on them. I look forward to being a college student athlete, continuing running track, and expanding my academic learning.
