Personal Statement

Hi, I'm Sonja Jones, I live in Oregon, and I run cross country/track at Westview High School. My aspirations for college are to have a place where I can grow and strive as a student athlete and be a part of a team where the goal is to be a part of something bigger than yourself. I am a very hard worker, anything I set my mind to, I will work as hard as I can to achieve it. Nothing in life is easy, you just have to work every day to achieve it. For instance, it was hard making Nike Outdoor Nationals and the Honors Society, but I put in the work every day, giving it 100% and I achieved it. Going back to the other comment on how I want to be a part of something bigger than myself, I play that every day on and off the track. For instance, I do a lot of volunteering at my local food bank, church, and cat shelter. Also, by making state as a team for the very first time with your best friends. I believe these two things really helped me really understand the world around me and definitely builds resilience. Another thing that I think sets me apart from other recruits is that throughout my running journey I have been through many setbacks, but I never gave up. For instance, when I had my shin stress fracture instead of giving up, I focused on my recovery and just off 8 miles a week I ran a pr in my 800m 2:22, and 5:17 in the mile on my first race back. What I learned is that the most successful runners learn and come back from their setbacks even stronger than they were before.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
