Personal Statement
The first 5k I ran was the moment I fell in love with running and decided to commit to running cross country and track. The feeling of runner’s high I got from pushing myself as fast as I could go was indescribable.
As a multi-sport athlete, I train hard at running and swimming, but freshman year brought many obstacles. A calf injury had prevented me from finishing track season, and a shoulder injury made it unclear if I would be able to swim again. In this time, I learned many valuable lessons about myself as an athlete, including the importance of having teammates to be there for one another through tough times. After taking a short break from running and a few months off of swimming for physical therapy, I was back and stronger than ever. Although the recovery process was long and slow, I was patient with it and eventually began training with an even greater appreciation for my health and ability to compete in sports. I had the best swim season of my life the next year, dropping more time than anyone would have expected, and began building up more strength and consistency in running.
Academically, I strive to improve with each year. I take classes that interest and challenge me and I always set aside time for homework and studying. My goal is to enroll in a college that will help me achieve my academic and athletic potential by challenging me in the classroom and on the track, and a college I can give back to by encouraging my teammates and giving 110% academically and athletically.
