Personal Statement

I fell in love with running at a young age. So why not pursue something that you are truly passionate for? This is the question that I have fortunately finally answered. I want to take the next step in my track career by competing at the collegiate level.

I have always been taught that it is “better to give than receive.” Therefore, I began volunteering around my community for a variety of different reasons: National Honor Society, Confirmation church group, etc. Throughout the last four years I have put in over one hundred hours of community service. Among the hours that I accumulated I most enjoyed the nursing home visits to a ninety-four year old woman named Emma.

As I previously mentioned, running has always been a part of my life. In elementary school we had fitness testing at the beginning and end of the year. It was a huge deal to receive the blue presidential ribbon; everyone at our school took this testing very seriously. We tested our abilities in pull ups, sit ups, standing long jump, shuttle eraser run, etc. However, when it came to running the mile it was a whole different story. Every single runner brought their “A” game that day. To me, it was basically a life or death situation. I had to win or I would never live it down. I bring this up because it shows the competitive side of me. When I step out onto that track or runway, I am there to compete.

Throughout my high school career as a student I have never received a B. My goal is to become valedictorian. So far, I am on the right track. As an athlete, my goals for my senior year include defending my State title in long jump and hopefully receiving a state title in the 300 meter hurdles. This year I placed second in that event at state. With the proper preparation, I plan on chasing after that win my senior year. I also want to break all of the school records that I currently hold – 100MH (15.28), 300MH (45.19), Long jump (18 feet 3.75 inches), 4x400 (4:06.84).

I love being surrounded by people. Interacting with others is one of my favorite hobbies. I could practically have a conversation with just about anyone. I enjoy constructive criticism as well. When it comes to jumping or running I am all ears on how I can improve. I love the team environment of track and cheering on my teammates. My favorite high school memories are due to being part of the track team.
