My name is Allison Cheeseman, and I am a senior at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, TN. I have been a part of the varsity cross-country and track teams at BA since my 8th-grade year. I have a passion for running that was developed early in my life, as both of my parents ran collegiately and taught me the joy of being active through sports. I chose running full time over my other love, soccer, in the 9th grade because I no longer wanted to divide my time and attention, and I derive more joy and fulfillment from the individual nature of distance running. I love the competitive aspect of racing: executing a game plan, and preparing for the unexpected within a race. Furthermore, I enjoy the process of training and seeing the pay-off in every successful race.
Academically, I am curious about most subjects, including history, French, biology/chemistry, and literature; I also enjoy the creative process of writing and visual art. I have earned a cumulative GPA of 4.55 through the first semester of my senior year. In my freshman year I won the Ancient History and Biology awards; in my sophomore year, I was the recipient of the Rogers Essay Writing award, the Chemistry Award, and the French III Award. In my junior year I received the Yale book award, the AP American History Award, AP Language Award, and the French IV honors award for earning the highest average in these classes. I feel blessed to receive these awards as they represent to me a significant amount of work, sacrifice and intellectual and personal growth.
Regarding the college environment, I am interested in a college that places a high importance on intellectual inquiry and scholarship. Other than wanting a school that is larger than 1500 students, I am open about school size. I am open to DI or competitive DIII programs at this point.
In terms of running in college, my goal is to contribute and help my team win conference championships and qualify for nationals. I want to be competitive and reach a new level of running and racing required for college success. I understand this will only come with dedication and perseverance and a will to prepare. It is my goal to continue to improve all aspects of my running to be eligible for a strong DI program and develop an academic profile consistent with one of the country’s elite academic schools.
