Personal Statement
I am a senior, class of 2022, who would like to run in college. My running story has many highs and lows. My running career started when I did not make the middle school soccer team which led me to try out for the cross-country team. Running was a natural fit for me, and I excelled in races even without much training. However, my race times began to decline during my sophomore cross season. I did not know why and I began to doubt myself and my running ability. Thankfully, I sought medical expertise and was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. After starting iron supplements my times slowly began to improve. I entered track season healthy and strong and I had a PR of 5:40 in the 1600 the first race of the season. I felt great and knew I could run the next 1600 even faster. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus pandemic canceled the rest of the track season. Despite the cancelation, I continued to train and persevere despite not having a race on the calendar. I was confident heading into my junior track season and PR'd with a time of 5:28. I have learned to persevere through adversity and train hard. I hope to run at a collegiate level and be able to contribute to a successful team while pursuing my academic dreams.
