Personal Statement
I am a 5'6 sprinter from Cedar Hill, TX and will graduate in the class of 2011 from Ursuline Academy of Dallas. This institution is an all-girls, private, and parochial high school. I have run on the varsity Ursuline track & field team for 3 consecutive years. I have been running track for 7 years and have gone to state 3 years in a row. My varsity track and field team has been the 5A TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) Track and Field State Champions for 3 years in a row since 2008.
I am dedicated and passionate in all that I endeavor to accomplish. Attending rigorous college preparatory schools has enabled me to develop a work ethic that is consistent, serious, and thorough. Not only do I accomplish every task I am given, I improve myself with every challenge. My coaches have recognized these traits in me, and so I have won the Heart Award at Ursuline Academy three years in a row. This is an award that highlights an individual??s hard work, strong leadership, consistent improvement, immense devotion, and outstanding achievements. In addition to my consistent effort, I have incredible statistics to show for my discipline. I set my personal record in the 100 at the TAPPS state track meet this year (2010) with an 11.91 sec. I have recently broken that record with an 11.84 sec. in which was run at the Great Southwestern Meet Classic in New Mexico 6/5/10. I ran the 60 meter dash for the first time this year in two indoor track meets, and I set a personal record of 7.77 sec. Finally, while striving to improve my times, I also work on improving my character and all around attitude in an effort to bring honor to myself and my school.
I am seeking to excel both on the track field and in the classroom. I aspire to work in the medical field so I would like to attend a university that has programs in pre-medicine: chemistry, biology, and psychology. The athletic environment I hope to participate in would be one where I could contribute hard work and dedication. I hope to learn from my teammates and coaches as well. Having a positive athletic environment, I believe, is key to a program??s success. I hope to contribute by adding to that environment. I am also looking for a large college with a small student to teacher ratio and a diverse student body. I would also like to run in a division that is suited to my athletic level: offering competition and the ability to improve. Finally, I am seeking financial aid, and I am willing to look at colleges all over the United States. Division 1 schools are my top priority, but I am interested in opportunities from division II and III schools as well.
