Hello my name is Ja'Nyah Jenkins and I am on the Girl's Track Varsity team at Lamar High School located in Houston, Texas. When it comes to track and academics I pride myself on being at the top. I love doing track because it makes me feel free while at the same time allowing me to be competitive. My favorite events are 100 and 300 hurdles, Triple and Long jumps. 100 and 400, and 4x1 and 4x4 relays.
I started running track for fun in the 5th grade preparing for our end of the year field day and from that day I knew I wanted to pursue running track. In the 7th grade I attended try-outs for the girls track team and from that day I have competed and plan to continue to compete all the way through college and possibly beyond. I will never forget my 7th grade coach asked if anybody wanted to hurdle, no one raised their hands but me, I had never ran over hurdles before, but I was a dare devil and every since that first attack of the hurdle, I have been hooked since.
Not only do I compete on the track, but I am also competitive in the classroom. I am a Honor Roll Student and just this year 2019, was inducted into the National Honor Society. I am a Ambassador for Girl Scouts and a member of Delta Gems.
It is my dream to become a Veterinarian. I would like to attend a school that I can pursue that dream while at the same time running track. I am working everyday and every season on making improvements to my performance, speed, form, and techniques on my hurdle workouts and jumps. I am a team player and I believe in giving 110% to my gift of running.
