Personal Statement
I began running track my first year in middle school, and I realized that God had given me an athletic ability. My second year in middle school I decided to join summer track. During summer track my coach patiently worked with me on my form in long jump. Track was becoming my favorite sport and long jump became one of my favorite events. My first season of track as a high school student was very exciting. I was enjoying lots of success during the first two track meets, but this abruptly came to an end when I was injured. Not being able to participate during the remaining of the season left me feeling discouraged. I was looking forward to summer track when I could compete again, and I had hopes of competing in the state meet, but due to a mix-up with registration, my team was not allowed to participate in regionals, and thus my hope of going state vanished for that season, and I felt empty. These setbacks created in me a desire to work harder and strive toward achieving my goals in track. I have learned that even though I have athletic ability I need to work hard to utilize the gift that I have been given. God has taught me to work hard and to persevere through disappointments. I just completed my sophomore year, and I competed in varsity track this past spring. I finished the year as the TCAF State Champion in long jump and the 200 meter sprint and runner-up in the 100 meter sprint. I was privileged to be invited to complete in the TTFCA Meet of Champions. I have set personal goals for myself each year and an overall goal with God. My academic goals are simple. I want to do my best in all of my high school subjects, and I especially enjoy science. I hope to attend a college with a major in criminal justice and a minor in forensics science. My goal is to find a college that has my degree plan and has a track program that will help me grow as an athlete. I feel that my best is yet to come, and I have much more to learn.
